Reservation holders of the 2022 Ford Maverick Hybrid compact pickup truck, some becoming anxious about the status of their long-awaited, often delayed builds, could use some good news right about now. Luckily, it seems a hopeful update has arrived right in time for the Christmas season. The message is short and sweet: the hybrid Maverick compact pickup truck has started shipping to dealerships, all according to plan. May the deliveries commence! They’re coming, and they’re coming in hot!
Reservation holders have reported receiving emails that their Hybrids have been built, will ship and deliver in December (some deliveries estimated as early as Dec 7-13) and be in customers’ hands thereafter. Others have been driving themselves mad tracking their builds, waiting for updates. We expect Maverick forums to explode the instant the first hybrid customer takes home his jolly lil ute.
The non-hybrid 2022 Ford Maverick, featuring the turbocharged 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine with 250 hp and 277 lb-ft of torque, did not face the same delays as the hybrid. All deliveries until now had been the non-hybrid. The Maverick Hybrid pumps out 191 hp and 155 lb-ft of torque from its 2.5-liter I-4 and permanent-magnet electric motor. It may only be available with front-wheel drive and not tow as much as the EcoBoost, but its 42 mpg city, 33 mpg highway, and 37 mpg combined official EPA ratings are definitely attractive, especially considering today’s outrageous fuel prices.
Why was the Ford Maverick Hybrid delayed?
One reason is because the 2.5-liter hybrid version of the Ford Maverick apparently needed time for the completion of its required state and federal emissions certification to get OKTB (okay to buy) status, which apparently makes it okay to buy, which is exactly what thousands of customers want to do. Buy. Per the Maverick Chat forum, it recently received this clearance:
“We are excited to announce that the official OK-To-Buy declaration has been achieved for the 22MY Maverick 2.5L Hybrid model and will now begin shipping to our Ford dealers.”
Can I order a 2022 Ford Maverick Hybrid?
If you’re hearing that you can’t order a 2022 Ford Maverick Hybrid, that’s true. Simply put, it’s sold out. Reservations are full, as confirmed by a representative at Ford. There’s a ton of demand for the hybrid, but Ford is not going to make an unlimited number of 2022 model year Maverick Hybrids. Ordering for 2023 Maverick Hybrid will reopen next summer, so yes, hybrid ordering is done for a while. However, it’s not a supply chain issue or a powertrain issue or an ordering system issue. As John Candy in National Lampoon’s Vacation would say regarding the situation, “Sorry folks, reservations are closed. Moose out front shoulda tolda ya.”
