Pïech Automotive GT Is a Sleek Swiss EV Grand Tourer

We’re entering an exciting new stage of EV development. As technology’s progressed, the first phase—boring, slow, range-limited compliance cars—is well over. We’re now branching out into futuristic, desirable high-end products like the Teslas, Lucids, and Rivians, and even boutique sportscars like this: the Pïech GT.  

Anton “Toni” Pïech is a descendent of Ferdinand Porsche and son of former Volkswagen CEO Ferdinand Pïech, and he started the Pïech Automotive company in Zürich, Switzerland. The Mark Zero concept was a preview of what you’re looking at, which if all goes well will be the first production car from the company. It’s an EV, and the company makes some interesting and lofty promises about its technology and performance.

One glance at the GT makes it clear that the name is a direct reflection of the mission: classic, graceful grand touring. It’s a smooth, retro-inspired shape, more timeless than contemporary, evocative of many classic cars but not directly derivative of any.  

The powertrain promises to be very modern, however. Emphasis on “promises.” The claims are bold: somewhere between 80 percent to full charge to the 75 kWh battery in less than 10 minutes. A proprietary battery cell technology from a Chinese company called Destin is credited with this remarkable promise, but of course the proof will be when (or, perhaps, if) the GT rolls off the line and to a real-life CCS2 fast charger.  

Other claims: a weight of just under 4,000 lbs, a 0-62 mph time of around 3 seconds, and 603 total system output from three e-motors (one up front, two out back, providing all-wheel drive). The company would like to produce an SUV and a 2+2 at some point, too, although getting the GT itself to market is a not-insignificant challenge. Whether or not the Pïech pans out, EVs like this are an intriguing piece of the future EV puzzle.
