William Jones, spokesperson for Cataclean Global said the new petrol will make the “burn less efficient”. He said this means drivers will get “more carbon” in their vehicles which will have an impact on vehicle performance rates.
Mr Jones made the comments while speaking to Halfords Racing BTCC podcast ahead of the fuel change last month.
He said: “Although the claims the actual CO2 emissions are less, that is a fact.
“The issues are with the actual burn within the engine.
“The introduction of ethanol or any biofuel, it’s going to make the burn less efficient.
“That means you’re going to get more carbon and the actual vehicle is going to get dirtier even though the emissions at the end have got better.”
Mr Jones confirmed this would then have an impact on the car’s performance.
However, he confirmed additives could be used to mitigate the risks of build-up as a result of using E10.
Although Mr Jones talks specifically about his Cataclean product, other E10 additives are available on the market.

He said: “Cataclean as a product will reduce the carbon build-up in the fuel and exhaust system.
“The fact that E10 is going to generate more carbon build-up in the fuel and exhaust system does create a greater need for [a] product to clean that carbon away.”
Mr Jones confirmed it was “correct” some cars would not be able to run on the petrol.
He said anything pre-2000 including things like mopeds and generators would likely be unable to use the new fuel.
