Fuel prices have been rising since June, when they were at a considerably low price of 107p per litre of petrol and 112p for diesel. Since then, both E10 petrol and diesel have hit their all-time record highs, shattering the price and nearing 150p for a litre of petrol and diesel hitting a peak of 150.96p.
According to RAC Fuel Watch, these prices are expected to fall.
When E10 was launched in September 2021, the Department for Transport said the switch to the new petrol would not cost more than the then-current standard of petrol.
Since then, E5 was designated as “super” unleaded petrol, which it says is still readily available from most filling stations.
The RAC reports the average price of super unleaded to be 158.65p per litre, meaning the average 55-litre tank would cost £87.25 for drivers to fill up.
One driver on Twitter, Ragnar, said: “Can’t believe I’m actually spending £1.60 per litre on overpriced premium petrol because the standard E10 is a pile of s***.”
Along with the fuel prices, drivers are also frustrated with the fuel economy of the new petrol.
The Government said using E10 petrol can marginally impact fuel economy, although it would only be around one percent, and would be “almost unnoticeable” when driving.
Another driver, Aviemore, complained about E10 petrol and highlighted its fuel efficiency.

They said: “Anyone else noticed their car‘s guzzling the new E10 petrol at an alarming rate?
“My car’s quite new and it’s guzzling this stuff.
“Going to have to change filling stations.
“The pumps I use don’t have E5 but will look out for it.
