It appears that McLaren will be roaring into the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance event with another car apart from the GT by MSO special. The company has announced a new Ultimate Series supercar to be positioned between the Senna and Speedtail models, with production limited to just 399 worldwide.
As shown by the sole teaser image above, the new yet-to-be-named supercar will be an open-top two-seater model with an incredibly shallow strip of glass that is the windshield. McLaren said it will get the classic roadster proportions, with “elegant sweeping lines,” low-profile dihedral doors, and the iconic double bubble roofline.
Built as a machine that’s focused on the exhilaration of pure, open-top driving, the new supercar will get McLaren’s trademark carbon-fibre construction, making it the lightest car ever produced by the company. Of course, motive power comes from a version of the twin-turbocharged V8 engine currently employed in the McLaren Senna to ensure breath-taking performance.
As a refresher, the Senna is powered by a 4.0 litre V8 engine that’s turbocharged to make 789 hp and 800 Nm of torque. With a dry weight of 1,198 kg, the Senna boasts a power-to-weight ratio of 659 hp per tonne. All that brute force is sent to the rear wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. In any case, the new roadster will be no slouch.
McLaren said the car will be introduced in late 2020, although it has yet to reveal the car’s base price. The company will be taking expressions of interest from customers at the Pebble Beach Concourse.
