Lincoln and Shinola are collaborating on a concept vehicle based on the Aviator SUV, and the luxury automaker plans to unveil the finished product at the 2021 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. The Lincoln Aviator Shinola Concept is not exactly the sort of vehicle we typically expect to bear the status of a “concept car.” That’s because the Aviator Shinola is no future-forward-looking machine sporting hand-formed body panels. Rather, it’s simply a production Aviator with some touches inspired by the Detroit-cheerleading Shinola brand.
The Aviator Shinola Concept lives up to its billing in the sense it is a one-off vehicle previewing a potential future model between Lincoln and the Detroit-based luxury goods manufacturer that’s primarily known for its watches. Naturally, Shinola’s timepieces were a key influence on this Aviator concept, which features a white exterior color inspired by the color featured on the faces of some of Shinola’s watches. The midsize luxury SUV’s rose gold exterior trim, meanwhile, is reminiscent of the copper-plated piece Shinola attaches to the seat of its Runwell bicycle.
Inside, rich brown leather lines the Aviator Shinola’s door skins, dashboard, and seats. In the latter’s case, Lincoln complements the dark hides with white suede inserts and chic woven textiles. Additional interior decor comes courtesy of woven metal mesh, which Lincoln notes is a nod to Shinola’s watch bands. Noticeably missing, however, is an analog clock that mimics the design and font of Shinola’s watch faces. A real missed opportunity if you ask us.
Although Lincoln labels the Aviator Shinola a concept, the brand surely plans to gauge the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance audience’s reaction to this special SUV. If things go well, then we wager it’s only a matter of time until Lincoln opts to put the upscale, Detroit-tastic Aviator Shinola into production.
