KwikFit launch Netflix style subscription service to stop drivers facing a ‘big bill’

The new KwikFit Club membership will allow drivers to pay a monthly subscription to cover all tyre repairs and replacement, wheel alignment and six-monthly health checks. Motorists will also have the option to include their MOT and servicing costs as part of a monthly package.

Each package will be tailored to a drivers personal circumstances based on the car and mileage they drive.

Members can also opt for multi-car membranes to cover all vehicles and can keep track of maintenance through a simple application.

The new package comes after a survey by the car experts found 17.7million drivers would be interested in a monthly package for vehicle maintenance.

They say demand for the project has grown by 15 percent since 2018 as more and more drivers are getting used to the subscription model.

KwikFit says the scheme is particularly appealing to younger drivers with 67 percent of 18-34-year-olds saying they would be interested in the project.

Roger Griggs, communications director at Kwik Fit said the package would stop drivers from “facing a big bill” when going in for repairs.

KwikFit said facing an unexpected repair bill is the third biggest mooring concern for road users, only behind having an accident breaking down.

Mr Griggs said: “The growth in demand for subscription services has been dramatic over recent years, particularly with younger consumers.

“We found that drivers aged 18-34 have an average of six subscriptions across all sectors and two-thirds of them would be interested in paying for car maintenance this way.

“It’s younger drivers who are most worried about their lack of car knowledge or the fact that they could be facing a big bill when going to a garage.

“It’s also these younger drivers who are most likely to put off repairs and maintenance.”

Research from KwikFit also suggests a monthly maintenance package could improve safety on the roads.

Two in five drivers said they have been put off by repairs or maintenance, rising to 55 percent of those between the ages of 18 and 24.

The most common reason for avoiding repairs was simply down to cost and the fear of not being able to afford a single heavy charge.

However, analysis shows some drivers even travelled up to 58 days or two months before eventually getting the repairs done.

This means they could have travelled over 1,000 miles with their car in a dangerous condition in a major road safety risk.

In some cases, drivers can even face fines or penalty points for failing to get repair work completed.

Mr Griggs added: “Benefits of Kwik Fit Club include members getting regular free health checks on their car and having regular, predictable maintenance costs instead of one-off spikes.

“If you think about buying four new tyres, traditionally car owners would pay for them all in one go – with KwikFit Club the cost is spread over the life of tyres – drivers are paying for them as they use them.”
