Ford owners can de-ice car windscreen in ‘60 seconds’ with simple button

Ford owners can de-ice their car windscreens in just 60 seconds by pressing a common button this autumn and winter, according to a new clip.

A YouTube video uploaded by a Ford dealership shows the power of the brand’s Quickclear heated windscreen tool.

@YourFordCentre showed how effective the mode was with a completely frosted windscreen cleared in just one minute.

The video shows a driver pressing a switch on the car dashboard and sitting back to relax. A time-lapse shows the frost swiftly breaking up and quickly turning into beads of water.

After just a minute, the road user activates the windscreen wipers and brushes off the remaining liquid to leave the glass completely clear.

A caption on the clip reads: “The screen was defrosted in less than 60 seconds thanks to Ford Quickclear.”

The button is easily accessible at the bottom of the dashboard close to the other air conditioning tools. The logo is a simple windscreen shape with a series of jagged lines inside making it almost impossible to miss.

Ford dealer brand T.C. Harrison said: “Ford drivers are better equipped to deal with winter weather, thanks to clever Quickclear heated windscreen technology which clears your icy windscreen in no time, so you don’t have to.”

The dealership said the system uses a “powerful but near-invisible electrical element” which is sandwiched in the middle of the windscreen glass.

Explaining the tool, Ford said: “The Quickclear Heated Windscreen uses ultra-thin filaments that superheat to de-ice, de-fog and de-mist your windscreen as well as help de-freeze the wipers. The system works in seconds, even if it’s below zero outside.”

The manufacturer added: “The location of the button depends on which vehicle model you have. Please download a copy of your Owner’s Manual for full details.”

Ford is recognised for creating the first heated windscreen when they first introduced the technology in the late 1990s.

The popular Ford Mondeo was the first vehicle to feature the Quickclear technology which has since been adopted across the lineup.

The tool is now available in almost all Ford vehicles and is a just-use tool as temperatures fall.

However, Ford has since lost the patent for their heated windscreen technology with many manufacturers now copying the feature.

Heated windscreens can now be found on vehicles produced by big brands such as Land Rover, Skoda, Nissan, Volkswagen and Vauxhall.

Aston Martin, Jaguar, SEAT and Mini vehicles also feature the tool on some of their models.
