In August, Ford Performance gave us a sneak preview of a new electric crate motor designed to power restomods and such, which it would unveil at SEMA. Well, now Ford has finally let the cat out of the bag and unveiled that crate e-motor at the Las Vegas Convention Center, and it did so in style with an all-electric concept truck.
The battery-electric Ford F-100 Eluminator concept, which emulates a classic 1978 F-100 pickup on the outside, features a powertrain mined from the almighty Mustang Mach-E GT Performance Edition inside. A single Eluminator EV crate motor generates 281 horsepower and 317 lb-ft of torque. However, when combined with a second motor, like in the ultra-sweet ’78 pickup shown here, the two can combine to produce a staggering 480 hp and 634 lb-ft.
Designed in collaboration with MLe Racecars, this one-off electric crate motor’d rig is built on a custom chassis by the Roadster Shop. Tastefully painted, the F-100 Eluminator concept comes finished in Avalanche Gray with Cerokote Copper accents. The dual-motor, all-wheel-drive electric pickup truck rides on 19-inch billet aluminum three-piece Forgeline wheels wearing 275/45 R19 Michelin Latitude Sport high-performance tires. Classic ’70s and ’80s-era Ford hubcap motifs—incorporated here as the raised inner part of the modern wheels with an orange dot and little “spokes”—are an excellent detail.
The cabin features unexpected modern touches familiar to anyone who has been inside a current Mustang Mach-E. There is the same 15.5-inch tablet-style touchscreen hanging off the old-school dashboard, as well as a 10.2-inch ribbon-style digital gauge cluster. But the real highlight of the interior is the two-tone black and avocado tan leather upholstery. Contrast stitching, a billet aluminum dashboard, and plaid trim on the door panels and center control are other splendid touches.
The Eluminator EV crate motor, part number M-9000-Mach-E, is legal in all 50 states and is available to purchase now for $3,900 online or at authorized Ford dealers. Like a project you would build from the ground up, it does not include additional drivetrain components. While those parts will need to be independently sourced, for the time being, Ford Performance plans to develop a wide selection of parts supporting electrification. Bridging the gap on aftermarket solutions, this includes batteries, controllers, and traction inverters.
Ford says the F-100 Eluminator concept previews the future of how it plans to support customers going all-electric and adopting zero-emissions performance, including for heritage vehicles. The Eluminator e-crate motor, aimed at custom car builders in search of a “transverse-oriented” powertrain, is suitable for models ranging from modern to classic. It represents the inception of an expanding portfolio of performance parts and accessories for upcoming Ford electric vehicles.
