Today, Friday, December 23, RAW Charging is offering free electric car charging across the network to help drivers get home for Christmas. It is estimated that almost 20 million people will be driving home across the UK in the days leading up to Christmas Eve.
Data from the RAC and INRIX shows that 7.9 million people are expected to drive on both “frantic” Friday and Christmas Eve on Saturday.
The charging network includes popular sites such as McArthurGlen outlet in York, Cheshire Oaks and the newly launched East Midlands, Greene King pubs across the UK and the Slough Charge Yard.
All of these charging stations, and more around the UK, will offer free charging for drivers throughout the day.
Free charging will begin at 12:01am on Friday, 23 December, and normal fees will resume at 23:59 on the same day.
There will be a mix of fast AC and DC Ultra Rapid chargers available for customers to use across RAW’s sites in the UK with free charging being available through the ChargePoint app or by using an RFID card.
Bruce Galliford, CEO of RAW Charging, said it was a nice way to cap off the year, by thanking drivers for using the service.
He said: “We’d like to do our bit to ensure fellow EV drivers get home for Christmas with a full charge by offering free charging across our network on December 23.
“We try and keep our charging rates down across the UK and we’d like to thank our customers by offering free AC and DC charging.

“Our customers, the reliability of our chargers and the service we offer are all integral parts of the business and we strive to be a personal and flexible network to suit the needs of EV drivers.
“We look forward to continuing our rollout of destination charging across the UK and Europe in 2023 and hope that everyone has a restful Christmas and New Year.”
This is not the first time RAW Charging has offered drivers the opportunity to “fill up” their vehicles for free.
In September, RAW gave back to the EV community by offering free charging across the UK to celebrate World EV Day, which saw record levels of charging across the network.

Due to driver uptake and as energy prices increase across the UK, RAW wants to give drivers an “early Christmas present” by giving all drivers the chance to charge up for free across the UK.
With an estimated 45 percent of drivers needing to charge their EVs away from home, RAW understands the importance of destination charging, offering some of the lowest charging costs in the industry.
Earlier this year the company announced its plans to deliver over 10,000 AC and DC chargers over the next three years.
RAW will be launching 80 new sites per month from January 2023 as the acceleration of RAW’s charging network continues.
At the end of November 2022, there were 36,752 electric vehicle charging points across the UK, across 21,906 charging locations.
This represents a 33 percent increase in the number of charging devices since November 2021, according to Zap-Map data.
Between the end of 2016 and 2021 the charge point network grew four-fold from 6,500 to more than 28,000 devices and between 2020 and the end of 2021, close to 7,500 charge points were added to the UK network, a growth of 36 percent.
The geographical area that has the most EV charging points is Greater London with 11,515, followed by the south east of England with 4,710 and Scotland with 3,774.
