Racing for the 2019 Bonneville Speed Week was supposed to start at 10 a.m. Saturday—two days ago. Rain late last week flooded the Salt Flats, leaving the place a slushy mess; not a place you’d want to drive at freeway speeds, much less make a 500-mph record attempt. SCTA officials decided to wait until Tuesday to attempt racing. Two days of drying in the hot sun makes the course safe for racing. In the interim, we’ve had plenty of time to rove the pits and access road, snapping pictures of cars in the pristine setting. Here are some of our favorites of these pictures. Stay tuned for some racing pictures later today; in the meantime, check out our previous galleries from Tech Inspection and the Wendover Car Show, and look for race results on the Southern California Timing Association’s website.
