The European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA) has confirmed most Fiat cars built after the year 2000 should be fine to use E10 petrol. However, they have listed eight model’s which cannot use the new compound.

The list of incompatible cars even includes one model from the popular Punto range.

The ACEA said: “E10 petrol is cleared for all Fiat vehicles with petrol engines of Euro 3 emission levels or newer, starting from model year 2000, except the following vehicles:

  • Barchetta: 1.8 16V.
  • Bravo/Brava (182): 1.6 16V.
  • Doblò: 1.6 16V.
  • Marea: 1.6 16V, 2.0 16V.

  • Marea: 1.6 16V, 2.0 16V.
  • Multipla: 1.6 16V.
  • Palio: 1.6 16V.
  • Punto (188): 1.8 16V.
  • Stilo: 1.6 16V (1.596 cm3), 1.8 16V, 2.4 20V.

In a statement to Express.co.uk, Fiat confirmed this list of cars were incompatible.

They urged owners of these models should “continue to fuel with E5” where they can.

Drivers who are desperate to check whether their car can or cannot use the new fuel should use the Government’s compatibility checker.

The DfT warns owners may need to know the vehicle model, engine size and manufacturer year for the most detailed information.

Drivers who are not sure of any of these details are urged to check the vehicle logbook before using the service.
