Some social media users have claimed they have needed to “refill twice as quick” under the new compound as drivers feel the sting. Drivers have claimed their cars were “drinking” the new petrol and were baffled as to why their car was suddenly using up more fuel.

One Twitter user said: “This E10 fuel is meant to be better yet I’ve had to refill twice as quick??

“And I mean my mileage left was flyyyying down.”

Twitter user Jemma Fabuleux added: “Is anyone else’s car drinking the new #E10 #Fuel?

“I’m having to fill up twice as much as before and wondering if it’s not as good.”

Jason Riley also suffered problems, branding the new petrol as a “pointless change”.

He added: “This #e10 fuel is rubbish getting through twice as much and mpg is a lot less so is everyone I ask about it!”

The warnings come days after the RAC warned E10 fuel changes have led to slight price rises on the forecourts.

They warned September’s E10 switch saw prices slightly rise by around a penny per litre before VAT was applied.

The Government previously predicted fuel costs would “increase” for motorists after the launch of E10.

But they suggested pump prices were “not expected” to rise under the new compound.

However, the sudden increase helps push the UK towards its “all-time average” of 142.48p per litre.

RAC fuel spokesman Simon Williams said petrol was now reaching “unprecedented levels”.
