Drivers could even be issued penalties for parking directly outside their homes if the vehicle is considered to cause an obstruction. Three forces have issued new warnings to drivers within days of each other with dozens of fines already being dished out.

Gloucestershire Police said they had received “a number of reports from residents” about paths being blocked.

They said this affects several pedestrians including those who suffer from disabilities.

Spokesperson Nick Westmacott said drivers would be penalised if officers found cars unnecessarily obstructing the pavement.

He said: “We have received a number of reports from residents in Chipping Campden of unnecessary obstruction of pavements.

“Please be mindful of pedestrians who need to get by with wheelchairs or pushchairs.

“The attached photo is not acceptable and vehicles will be ticketed if found obstructing in this way.”

The comments come days after drivers were also warned about pavement parking in Reading.

The Thames Valley Police neighbourhood team patrolled a number of areas earlier this week and dished out penalties.

They said several fines were handed out after vehicles were found blocking pavements and junctions.

They said: “There has been an increase of vehicles causing obstructions to the footpaths and junctions.

“A total of 10 tickets were issued this morning reminding people of the importance of parking sensibly and safely.”

Around 40 cars were issued penalties at a well known illegal parking spot in Liverpool.
