Yeah, we asked it: Mustang Mach-E hearse or Tesla hearse? We apologize for the crazy question; it wasn’t our idea. Coleman Milne, a United Kingdom-based manufacturer of hearses and limousines, has both in its fleet. Yup, electric-powered casket-haulers. Maybe EV hearses have their selling points; we envision these two zingers could be in a brochure. Silent funerals, now with more silence! Die twice if your EV hearse runs out of juice! It’s just too intriguing to pass up.
The Coleman Milne Ford Mustang Mach-E EV hearse is named the Etive, after a river in the West Scottish Highlands. It’ll be available for demos in the first half of 2023, so don’t die quite yet. Some features include a glass roof, flat full-length deck, power lift tailgate, full-size sliding deck, under-deck drawer, illuminated signs, and more. There’s room for three full-size bearer seats and personal tribute memorabilia. The Mach-E hearse has a 75-kWh battery with a truncated range of about 200 miles, perhaps because of the extra heft added in the conversion. It’s about 13 inches higher and 61 inches longer than a standard Mach-E.
On the other hand, Coleman Milne offers the Wisper electric hearse, based on the Tesla Model S. The company touts it as safe, clean, stylish, and innovative. This elegant, all-electric, zero-emissions hearse can travel 220 miles on a single charge. It apparently fulfills the growing demand for eco-funerals; we’ll let you do your own homework on what that involves. Like the Mach-E, this Tesla is totally customized to appropriately fit its designated cargo. We like the side pull-out drawers, and the name itself, Wisper, adds a calming dimension to an otherwise uneasy topic.
We’ll add these custom electric hearses to the collection of fast hearses, custom hot rod hearses, ridiculously freaky hearses, and ultra-luxury hearses that we’ve covered in the past. Dead or alive, you’ve gotta roll in style. We suppose.
