Chilean Capital Of Santiago Ordered 183 More BYD EV Buses

In terms of EV buses, Santiago is now second to none not only in South America but globally, aside from China.

Santiago, the capital of Chile, started this year with 203 electric buses (including 100 delivered by BYD and 100 by Yutong), but wants to end the year with more than 400 electric buses!

The most recent order is for 183 BYD electric buses, which together with other smaller orders will increase the total fleet to 411. Currently, there is no other city outside of China to have so many battery electric buses.

Besides the high volume, interesting is also the express pace of order as deliveries are expected in August 2019!

According to BYD, the ordered model can go up to 250 km (155 miles) on a single charge. The number of seats is 38.

“The 183 units of BYD pure electric buses will join the 100 electric buses that BYD and local partner Enel brought into Santiago last December, giving BYD a dominant share of more than 60% in the capital’spromising electric bus market. They will be integrated during the last quarter into the existing Metbus fleet to operate the popular Avenida Grecia route, becoming the first route operated by only electric buses in Latin America. Metbus is also one of the largest pure electric bus fleet operators in the Americas.”
