A new report from Greener Transport Solutions has claimed changes are needed to ensure the UK meets its carbon reduction targets. The new ‘Manifesto for Decarbonising Transport’ highlights targets would only be met with three changes to the road.
This included traffic reduction and “delivering behaviour changes” as key updates needed.
However, the standout policy was a “reform of motoring taxation” as more drivers switched to electric vehicles.
Greener Transport Solutions (GTS) said: “GTS has conducted extensive research which concludes that achieving our carbon reduction targets will require.
“Traffic reduction in addition to the roll-out of zero-emissions vehicles.
“A complete reform of motoring taxation as we transition from petrol and diesel vehicles.
“A credible national programme for delivering behaviour change.
“This cannot afford to wait.
“60 percent of the decarbonisation task for transport needs to be done in the next decade if we are to be on track for the net-zero target.”

The new report comes amid rumours the Chancellor could change car tax legislation in his Autumn Budget.
Earlier this week, LeasePlan UK warned we could see some “early indicators” this year over possible tax changes.
They have called for “further transparency” over company car tax rates beyond the current 2025 cut-off.
The Transport Select Committee confirmed their report on road pricing could soon be published.
