The new charges will see the most highly polluting vehicles hit with extra costs for simply driving into the city centre. Birmingham has revealed it will charge owners of private cars up to £9 per day to use the roads when the scheme is launched this summer.
Meanwhile, Bath will focus on taxis, private hire vehicles and taxis as well as issuing heavier £100 charges to Heavy Goods Vehicles.
However, councillors in Bristol have already warned of the possibility of parking chaos as a result of the new scheme.
They fear areas outside the city centre will be inundated with polluting vehicles desperate to avoid the charge.
London’s Ultra Low Emissions Zone will also be expanded from October to include many Outer London boroughs.
The new updates are coming into effect in a dramatic bid to reduce overall carbon emissions on the road.
