Cadillac must be fans of Shaggy, because they’re going all in on names that rhyme with the lyrics in the artist’s 1995 title track “Boombastic.” Looking to make its looming gaggle of all-electric models a bit more romantic and fantastic—or should we say “romantiq and fantastiq”—Cadillac is ensuring that most of these new models bear names ending in “iq.” Carbuzz uncovered the latest of these new Cadillac names from a few trademark filings, and they include “Vistiq” and “Lumistiq.”
Amusingly, Cadillac’s bid to retain the Escalade SUV’s name cachet has led it down an unusual path for the forthcoming electric variant: Escalade IQL. Also uncovered in a trademark filing, that name manages to combine “Escalade” and the all-important “IQ” bits, though we aren’t sure how Caddy didn’t at least try to pull off “Escaliq.” We suppose that sounds a bit like a fancy escalator, but we digress.
Now, we don’t yet know for sure which vehicles the Vistiq and Lumistiq names are destined for. Pure speculation? The Vistiq’s vague overtones of “vista” suggest an SUV of some kind, or at least something outdoorsy; on the other hand, Lumistiq sounds like luminescent lipstick—okay, we got nothin’. Your guess is as good as ours.
We do know that Cadillac will only sell EVs come 2030, and so there will be plenty of vehicles flying out of its doors in coming years in need of new names; a few of those models already have names: the Celestiq and Lyriq, which are coming for 2023.
