Alpine A110S Debuts With More Power, Firmer Suspension For The Coupe

The Alpine A110S arrives as the new range-topping model in the French performance brand’s sporty lineup. To turn up the heat, the company gives the hotter model a 1.8-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine making 288 horsepower (215 kilowatts) and 236 pound-feet (320 Newton-meters), rather than 249 hp (185 kW) and 236 lb-ft (320 Nm) from lesser versions. If you live in Europe, then the A110S is available right now at a starting price of €66,500 ($74,971 at current exchange rates). Deliveries start in October. Like the rest of the Alpine lineup, don’t look for the new version to go on sale in the United States.
The mid-mounted 1.8-liter mill hooks up to a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. A brake-based electronic differential balances the output between the rear wheels to maximize traction. The powertrain lets the A110S hit 62 miles per hour (100 kilometers per hour) in 4.4 seconds and reach a top speed of 162 miles per hour (260 kilometers per hour).
In addition to boosting the output, Alpine gives attention to the meaner model’s handling. The ride height is 0.1575 inches (4 millimeters) lower than other A110 variants. The springs are 50 percent stiffer, and the anti-roll bars are 100 percent firmer. The A110S rides on Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires with a specific compound for this vehicle. It comes standard with 12.6-inch (320-millimeter) Brembo brakes, which are optional on other Alpines.
On the outside, the A110S differentiates itself from other variants by wearing a carbon fiber and orange flag on the C-pillar. It also wears orange brake calipers and dark-finished wheels. Buyers can also specify options like a carbon fiber roof and Gris Tonnerre matte finish gray paint.
Inside, there’s orange stitching over black Dinamica faux suede. The Sabelt seats weigh just 28.88 pounds (13.1 kilograms) each. The carbon fiber and orange emblem also makes an appearance in the cabin.
