We’ve pored over every morsel of information that’s dropped early about the forthcoming Chevy Corvette Z06, the track-oriented version of the latest mid-engine C8 Vette. We’ve listened to its engine roar. We’ve talked about that engine—a new twin-cam 5.5-liter flat-plane-crankshaft V-8—a lot. And now Chevrolet has let slip when we can expect to see the new Z06 revealed fully.
Okay, you’ll need to wait a bit longer—only until the fall, specifically, October 26, 2021. Expect full details on the Z06’s suspension upgrades, tires, and—of course—that fancy new engine that we suspect will make north of 600 hp. Keep in mind, that’ll be more power than the C8.R race car with the same basic engine gets. Thanks to the production car not needing to conform to racing rules that hold the C8.R back to about 500 ponies, it can go full send and get all the beans the new 5.5-liter V-8 is capable of.
After the Corvette Z06’s reveal, expect to wait a little bit longer still to actually buy one. The sporty Vette has been delayed (hence the 2023 model year), and will go on sale sometime next year (2022) at the earliest. In the meantime, you can try and get your hands on a regular 2022 Corvette with the Z51 performance package, the sauciest C8 available until the Z06 arrives.
