Shown at EICMA 2019 was the 2020 Triumph Thruxton RS, now Euro 5 compliant, with a dash more power and a little weight loss. This is accompanied by a host of electronic and cosmetic updates, as well as better brakes.
The engine in the Thruxton RS is the same, a 1,200 cc parallel-twin mill with a bump up in horsepower from 97 hp to 105 hp. Torque is now delivered lower down in the rev range, with 112 Nm coming in 700 rpm lower than the previous 4,950 rpm along with a redline 500 rpm higher.
Engine internals such as the crankshaft, clutch and balance shafts have been reworked and rotational inertia reduced by 20% which, along with the 6 kg weight loss from 203 kg previously, will make the Thruxton RS a more responsive package. First major service kicks in at 10,000 km, which means overall reliability of the Hinckley twin has been improved.
Braking goes from the Brembo M4.32 Monobloc callipers to radial-mount Brembo M50 Monoblocs, as used on the Triumph Street Triple 765RS and a host of top level superbikes. Tyre specification has also changed, from Pirelli Diablo Rosso Corsa to Metzeler Racetec RR rubber.
Cosmetic updates included black anodised wheels with the same treatment applied to the lightened engine covers and magnesium cam cover. There are two colour options available for the 2020 Triumph Thruxton RS – Jet Black and Matte Grey/Matte Silver Ice and a wide selection of accessories from the official Triumph catalogue including cafe racer fairing.
